Daniel 11:32b NKJV

32 but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.

Every believer is a disciple of Jesus Christ. It is vital for anyone looking to deepen their faith to understand their role as a disciple of Christ.

This post follows Holy Week, and the Lord is highlighting two key themes: the commission to go forth and the call to follow. Many in the Body of Christ can complicate the understanding of our call and often times skip the commission. I encourage each of us to receive from Jesus all that is needed to embrace both the commission and call to spread the gospel and follow His teachings.

Understanding the Commission

In John 20:21, Jesus emphasizes the commission given to His disciples: “As the Father has sent me, I also send you.” This powerfully shows the importance of action in our faith journey.

  • Why This Matters: Jesus not only calls us to believe but also to act. We are commissioned to share the gospel and fulfill His mission on Earth. This is why we are here!
  • How to Embrace This Commission: What has the Lord called you to do? Seek the Lord and ask Him to direct you in His commission.
  • Common Mistake: One common mistake is feeling unqualified to spread the message. Remember, Jesus equips those He calls. Trust in His guidance and let Holy Spirit lead you.

The Call to Follow

In John 21:19, Jesus tells Peter, “Follow me.” This directive is both simple and profound, urging us to focus on our own paths rather than comparing ourselves to others.

  • The Importance of Personal Focus: Peter’s story illustrates how looking at others or situations around us can derail from the mission. Each follower has a unique journey, and comparison can lead to doubt and distraction.
  • Applying This Call: Reflect on your own relationship with Jesus. What does following Him look like for you? Spend time in prayer and seek His guidance on how to walk in His footsteps.
  • Distractions to Avoid: Social media, other people’s opinions, and past failures can all serve as distractions. Keep your eyes on Jesus and the calling He has placed on your life.

I pray we remember both our commission to go and our call to follow Jesus. As we navigate our faith journeys, I pray we keep our eyes on Jesus, trusting that He will guide us in fulfilling our purpose.

By faith we go! By faith we do! Jesus we follow!
